Brackenridge Country Retreat & Spa, Martinborough has collaborated with South Wairarapa Personal Training to bring the ‘Biggest Loser’ to Martinborough.   This focused challenge is designed to put individuals on a fast track to achieving their goals, whether it be for loss of kilos or a reduction in body fat percentage in an environment with others on the same wellness journey. The Brackenridge Biggest Loser Martinborough will start Saturday 1 September and continue for 8 weeks finishing on Sunday 28 October, 2018 at 5pm.

David Baird, veteran trainer and the man behind the biggest loser concept in the Wairarapa and trainer Mireie Penman, both from South Wairarapa Personal Training will facilitate the challenge which will be headquartered at the gym at Brackenridge Country Retreat & Spa, offering weekly weigh-ins at the gym as well as personal training and nutritional plans at special rates.

To participate in the Brackenridge Biggest Loser Martinborough challenge it is $20 per person, with a weekly weigh-in where you may be penalised $5 if you gain weight or increase fat percentage.   All monies collected for the duration of the challenge are placed in the prize pool for rewarding the winners.   Being a member of the Brackenridge Gym is not a prerequisite to participating, but it certainly would help you achieve your goals with monthly membership fees of just $59 (or $45 for over 65s) with access to the gym workout room and indoor 20m lap pool.

Speaking from personal experience, Brackenridge Spa Manager, Sharon Garrett said

“Last year I participated in the Biggest Loser challenge that David, the founder of South Wairarapa Personal Training instigated.   I found out about it through my neighbours and friends and was so excited to join in.   I quickly discovered that being part of something bigger than just me, ignited a competitive spark in me, not to fail.   I ended up losing a lot of weight.   I still have a very long way to go, but it was starting the journey that mattered and being conscious about what I eat and getting up and moving.”

Talking about achieving goals, Sharon says she relied heavily on the motivation and encouragement from her trainer.

“I didn’t just sign up and try to do it on my own. I took things a step further and asked David to train me three times a week.   I supplemented that training with some good long walks.   It worked for me and I’m so delighted that South Wairarapa Personal Training has joined with Brackenridge to make this style of competition accessible for people in Martinborough.”

Sharon explained that her results went on to inspire family members as far away as Canada to make health their priority. Closer to home, her husband wanted to be in on the action and now trains twice a week with David with the aim of losing fat and building body muscle.
